China Offshore Summit 2017 is one of the Asia’s largest financial and wealth management summits since the inception in 2010. It is held bi-annually in Shenzhen and Shanghai, and attracts many professionals and experts from financial institutions, financial service providers, governments and investment institutions all over world.

As one of the Bronze Sponsors of the summit, Zetland Fiduciary Group Limited had a booth during the three-day event. On the second day (1st Nov) Phoebe Luo, General Manager, China Zetland Fiduciary Group Limited, was invited as one of the panelists for the panel discussion on the topic of “The New Face of International Planning and Tax Transparency for Multi-jurisdictional Asset Diversification”. Phoebe has over 7-years experience in offshore trusts, private foundations and international companies and she shared her perspectives on this topic.

Questions that were discussed included the use of offshore structures by wealthy clients- will they be identified as tax avoidance tools in the current global context of anti-tax evasion? What are the solutions for optimizing structures within the Common Reporting Standard (CRS) framework? On this issue, Phoebe Luo gave a comprehensive introduction to the classification and reportable rules of offshore trusts under CRS. Meanwhile, she elaborated the needs and demands for Chinese high net worth individuals as well as their understanding of CRS through some real case studies. Furthermore, Phoebe explained the concept of “1.5 generation” in China, which was mentioned on China Offshore Summit 2017 held in Shenzhen in May. The 1.5 generation are potential and existing clients, who pay more attention to the advantages of asset protection and wealth planning via compliant tailor-made structures.
